CLS 747-200

review

The Boeing 747 is a long-range, wide body commercial passenger jet aircraft. The Boeing 747-200 is an improved 747-100, but with more powerful engines and higher takeoff weights.

Started in 2005, Commercial Level Simulations (CLS) has grown to a high quality commercial add-on developer for MS Flight Simulator. Their products are not that expensive and yet high quality.

Their Boeing 747-200 is a beautifully designed aircraft and it represents the real 747-200 very well. The 747-200 is part of the 747-200/300 package. It contains both 747 classics in all engine variants, very nice sound sets for all engine variants, detailed manual, livery manager and 65 high quality liveries. This product is available in FS2004 and FSX version.

Many cockpit systems are simulated like GPWS, TCAS, IRS, etc. The functionality of the CDU is limited and can automatically read the IFR flightplan that you've created in FS. The flight dynamics are well balanced and the animations are very accurate. The autopilot is working perfectly. With small icons on the 2d panel, you can switch the virtual cockpit on and off. Another icon shows a diagram of the aircraft with areas that can be clicked to open doors, show the pushback truck and other vehicles. The majority of the liveries are high quality.

If you're looking for the ultimate realism, you have to look further. The 2d panel looks ok, but the functionality is limited. Many parts of the panel are made from (low resolution) photos, especially the top of the main panel looks familiar; it's a part of the overhead panel of the retired KLM 747-200 SUD (PH-BUK) that has been stored in Lelystad, The Netherlands. See this photo on airliners.net:

https://www.airliners.net/photo/KLM---Royal/Boeing-747-206BM(SUD)/1267753/L/

There is only one panel for both the 747-200 and -300, the one with tape gauges, so for round gauges (which are widely used in both types as well) I would recommend the Ready For Pushback Boeing 747-200, although that product is not compatible with FSX. The virtual cockpit looks nice and most buttons and switches are clickable. Again, many textures are made from photos and low resolution.

Strange as it is, it seems that CLS still doesn't care much about crosswind situations. Like many other CLS aircraft, the rudder is only effective when airborne. On the ground it can only handle calm crosswinds, otherwise the aircraft will slip off the runway. The landing gear however, is animated correctly and very detailed too.

by far the best 747 package ,plenty of liverys, highly detailed(dirty) well worth the money ,runs with fsx/acceleration sp2, recommend high spec machine quad core to maintain good fps

The aircraft stalls at a speed of 210 for me Chris is it just the aircraft or do you have problems with this. (I am having problems taking off and landing)

210 knots IAS is not a typical stall speed for a 747. Perhaps your aircraft is too heavy.

No, I've been looking for it, but couldn't find it. However, you might want to contact the creator of this video:

It seems he has the Air Force One paint...

I do NOT agree with the very first comment, that the CLS is "THE BEST 747 PACKAGE"... After having the "Ready For Pushback 747-200" for years i decided to buy the CLS 747,and i do not like it,because for example the Fl. Engineer Panel is NOT fully functional like with the RFP, and i miss that... The best heavy airliner addons till now has been build by PMDG,i have all of them, but i still prefere my old Classic RFP 747-200. Those who like the CLS for half the new price may contact me...i have a Brand New "boxed" one..(ok. used just ONE time...)

I agree with Alex Alberto !

I get CLS 747-200 as Christmas present from my children. Beautiful eye-candy graphic details, nice sounds and thats hit. But if you want more professional try READY FOR PUSH BACK 747-200.

Because RFP 747-200 has the best Engineer Panel.
Thats why I stopped flying with CLS.

I am using FS2004 + RFP 747 + Carenado Cessna172 + CIELOSIM Instant Enhancer + Zinertek Ultimate Water FX and nothing else.

    Thanks and Best Regards

CLS also released an update with INS. That's working very nicely. I use the CLS as for the 200 and 300 and PMDG for 400. I love the sound and the views.

I also agree whit Alex Alberto and Feridun, I have also the most realistic add-ons, and in the case of the 747-200/300 there is no comparison between CLS and Ready for Push Back, if you want to just jump in and go up, the CLS is for you, but if you really love to fly "over the book" (I mean, the procedure) the yours will be the RFPBack.
Congratulations to Alex Alberto for his videos in Youtube.
    Thanks.
