Sky Simulations MD-11
review
The Sky Simulations MD-11 is a beautifully designed aircraft with a lot special animations. The package contains the passenger and cargo model with General Electric and Pratt & Whitney engines, soundset, many high quality liveries and a 106 pages operation manual. All control surfaces are moving realistically. Unfortunately, the main landing gear is at the wrong angle and not flexible like the one of the Overland model.
The 2d panel looks realistic, although not all systems work exactly like on the real MD-11. For example, the navigation display (EHSI) looks more like the default garmin gps system than the EHSI of a real MD-11. This is of course a minor detail, but I guess it's worth mentioning. The FMS isn't realistic either, though it works fine and is very easy to use because your IFR flight plan will be automatically loaded. The overhead panel looks nice, with most systems functional. Many cockpit systems are modeled like air, electrical, fuel and hydraulic systems, GPWS with typical McDonnell Douglas callouts, realistic multifunction displays, etc.
If you like to control the aircraft in the virtual cockpit, you'll be pleased. The VC looks very realistic and most of the buttons and handles are clickable. Many animations are visible, like a moving nose wheel steering, opening windows, moving windshield wipers and even the manual braking is visible on the rudder pedals! With a click on a button, you can switch on the HUD (Head Up Display) function (see screenshot #3), which can be useful during approach.
With a sub-panel, you can control various special animations: Opening passenger and cargo doors, moving ground vehicles like a fuel truck and cargo loaders, animated ground crew, opening cockpit windows, maintenance mode with opening engines, nose and tail, animated air stairs vehicle, animated pushback truck main cargo loader in the freighter version.

Hey, does anyone know if this is a good buy? I am looking for a good MD-11, and it's either this or PMDG! I am running FSX under Vista. . .Does anyone know how the fps of this product compare to the fps of the PMDG because I have heard that the PMDG model is a huge performance loser. Thankson 01/17/2009 at 18:01:27
The PMDG MD-11 is the most detailed and realistic model, but also the most expensive. The Sky Simulations model is better for fps.on 02/22/2009 at 8:44:05
Does this model have a simple fmc, complex one like PMDG or just a simple gps nav switch?on 02/22/2009 at 13:18:12
It's a very simple FMC, nothing like the realistic FMC of the PMDG MD-11. It automatically reads the fs flightplan. It's more like a Garmin gps than a FMC.on 02/24/2009 at 6:39:37
Ah that's good. That's my kind of fmc!on 03/13/2009 at 1:06:54
Does anyone know what liveries are available?on 06/14/2009 at 13:11:50
I would reccomend this over the PMDG because this is WAY more cheaper and this one might not be as realistic but it has more animations as far as i know....so Matt i would reccomend this oneon 08/18/2009 at 15:23:28
Are you people for real? The PMDG MD-11 blows this Skysim effort out of the water! Don't buy it just because it's cheap! - save up and buy the PMDG MD-11; it's truly superb and it is very good on frame rates as long as your system isn't a Pentium III !on 10/05/2009 at 14:36:38
I hate FMC's. So incompatible to FS2004/X. Saving the realism til I become a airline pilot. Thats why I like this plane. I just wish more developers can create planes that flies the default way. I would totally buy!Add a Comment
