Eurowings BAe 146

review

The BAe 146 is a short-range, commercial passenger jet aircraft. The BAe 146 was originally designed by Hawker Siddeley with the designation "HS.146", but they abandoned the project due to the world economic downturn resulting from the 1973 oil crisis. British Aerospace re-launched the project and the first flight of the 146-100 occurred on 3 September 1981. The type name "146" was replaced by "Avro RJ" in 1993. The type names of the BAe 146 -100, -200 and -300 models changed to RJ70, RJ85, and RJ100. Of the 387 aircraft build, sever had been involved in hull-loss accidents with a total of 216 fatalities, most of them due to human errors.

The Eurowings BAe 146 is part of the Eurowings 2004 / Commuter Airliners package that contains many regional aircraft, but is also available in a separate package. The package contains the BAe 146-200, -300 and -300QT (freighter) with or without EFIS cockpit, engine sounds, many liveries, flight planner and load editor.

The exterior looks great, many details and realistic (behavior of the) landing gear. The liveries are ok, some of them could be better. The textures however, are great with many dirt effects on various parts of the aircraft. The 2d panel looks good, many systems are simulated and many buttons and knobs are clickable. There is no virtual cockpit and neither are there wingviews. Let's keep in mind that these aircraft are originally developed for FS2002, a virtual cockpit wasn't common in those days. Some parts of the panel like the EFIS screens show a larger version when clicked on. This is also the case with the warning lights, but those are of such a low resolution, you can't read them. There is also a pushback panel which allows you to control the animated pushback tug, air stairs and doors. The window wiper switches on the overhead panel are nice, but why are there no wipers moving on the exterior?

All facts combined, these BAe 146 models are not bad and if you love this specific aircraft type, there isn't much choice either. Freeware alternatives just don't offer this level of detail.
