Project Tupolev Ilyushin Il-62M
review
The Ilyushin Il-62 is a long range jet airliner, designed to complement and partially to replace the Tupolev Tu-114. The Il-62 first flew in 1963 and entered commercial service with Aeroflot in 1967. The first scheduled international service was on 15 September 1967 from Moscow to Montreal. Just like the British VC10, the Il-62 has four engines mounted in pairs on each side of the rear fuselage. The Il-62M variant has more powerful, more economical and quieter Soloviev D-30KU engines and a fin fuel tank. The Il-62M entered service in 1974. Nearly all examples in service today are Il-62Ms. It is believed that more than 210 Il-62 variants have been built.
Project Tupolev's Il-62M is a very detailed aircraft for FS2004. The package contains an easy to use installer. A very detailed panel and engine sounds are included. Many systems are simulated including an authentic NV-PB Navigation System. The panel looks great and contains many sub-panels like the captain, copilot and navigator panel. Unlike their Tu-154 model, the Il-62 is a bit simplified and will start with the majority of the systems started. Still, it is not easy to operate the aircraft, so the 92 pages PDF manual is a must.
The exterior is detailed and has all the usual animations plus opening doors and retractable rear wheel. The base package contains only one livery (VIM Airlines), but there are more liveries available in the AVSIM Library. The engine sounds aren't bad, although the external sounds could use some improvement.
